For whatever reason I wanted to login to the Alexa Developer Console with an Amazon account at amazon.com. Unfortunately I did the last login some time ago, so Amazon wanted to verify me and sent an OTP by email. This email didn’t arrive while sitting in front of the computer. When looking at the scree some time later the email did arrive but the login page got a timeout and I couldn’t use the OTP anymore. A few hours later I got another email that they detected something strange and locked my account. So this is the first thing broken: It was me and not somebody else, so why did their detection fail? Unlocking the account would be possible by contacting the support. Contacting the support needs a login; second strike. After some clicking around, I found a page with two options: send an email or call a number in the US. The email-button was grayed out and in no case I would call a foreign phone number; third strike -> strikeout.
As Alexa seems to be dead anyway, this would be no loss. But I try to login to other rarely used Amazon accounts now. Probably I will need to find European alternatives to Amazon/Alexa/AWS …
